Why Israel is taking a neutral position in the Russia Ukraine war.

 Israel has always been a close ally of the US and the West since its formation in mid 1900s. US has been constantly providing economical and political support to Israel and US politics is has always taken a unanimous stand when it is about Jews. 

So why Israel is not supporting US in this war despite its close relations with US. 

To understand this, we have to first understand that Israel is providing humanitarian aid and it had provided crucial intelligence to Ukraine. But when Ukraine asked for the Iron Dome, State of the Art Missile Defense Technology, Israel refused to give it to Ukraine. And recently Israel has taken a soft stand towards Russians. 

But why is this so? 

The first reason is that this air defense system is crucial for Israel's own security and it largely depends on it for its own protection from militant groups. It cannot afford to send it to Ukraine, where it can fall into the wrong hands, amidst the dearth of war weapons. Israel cannot risk its own security at any cost. 

Second reason for why Israel is soft on Russia, is because it needs Russian support in countering the militant organizations like Hezbollah and Hamas which pose a great threat to its security. Let us see how. These organizations operate mainly in Syria, the country adjacent to Israel. They transport their weapons through this country. And Russia has a stronghold in Syria. Russia has funded the syrian military establishment and provided weapons and has maintained its strong presence in the country. 

For Israel's security, it is crucial to gain Russian support in the region, to exterminate the militants. Recently, the weapons shipments of these militant groups were bombed by Israel, but it can never be possible without Russian support. Therefore, Russia is important to Israel and Israel cannot afford to make an enemy out of Russia. 

Moreover, Russia has a Jewish population and Israel cannot afford to out them at stake. For the well being of the Jews and Russia, and for the smooth running of immigration offices in Russia, there has to have a good relationship between both the countries. 

Due to all these reasons, Israel has taken this position, which may cause a slight discomfort to USA. But Israel cannot stake its own security interests where it is the only Jewish country surrounded by the enemies.
